Carboxylic acid groups show a surprisingly high reactivity under polya
mide melt conditions. During melt processing of polyamide 6 with acryl
ic acid grafted polyolefines, acrylic acid grafted EVA copolymers as s
o-called high molecular weight decomposition agent were specially stud
ied, a coupling reaction by a random transamidation reaction of the ac
rylic acid groups with the polyamide chains could be shown. The result
s are discussed in comparison to mechanisms published in the literatur
