Abstract
A gradual temperature increase in rice leaves resulted in a better hea t shock response in comparison with a sudden increase in temperature. Homologous LMW HSPs were detected in gradually heat shocked rice leave s using antibodies against pea LMW HSPs. The antibodies against pea HS P18.1 cross reacted with rice HSP19 and 19.5 while the antibodies agai nst the carboxyl end of pea HSP21 cross reacted with rice HSP27. Homol ogous LMW HSP transcripts were also detected in gradually heat shocked rice leaves using soybean and pea heat shock probes.
