Abstract
Spectroscopical and theoretical investigations of various aspects of m olecular solvation by hydrogen bonding are presented. The focus is on clusters of phenol with water to study the hydrogen bond in water netw orks and the solvent interaction with the phenol OH group and the arom atic ring. The phenol dimer and trimer are considered to elucidate the effect of electronic excitation in different cluster moieties. Excite d state proton transfer reactions are discussed using clusters of phen ol with ammonia as an example.
