Vi. Sorokin et Ai. Chichinin, THE 248 NM PHOTODISSOCIATION OF CLF3 - QUANTUM YIELDS FOR F AND CL ATOMS, Chemical physics letters, 280(1-2), 1997, pp. 141-144
The dynamics of the 248 nm excimer-laser-induced photodissociation of
CIF3 has been investigated by the observation of the Cl atoms by time-
resolved laser magnetic resonance. In the presence of Cl-2, photolytic
ally produced F atoms interacted with Cl-2 to produce Cl atoms. Quantu
m yields for F and Cl atom formation were measured by comparison to th
e Cl signal from COCl2, photolysis for which the quantum yield is know
n in the literature. The quantum yields for F and Cl atom formation ar
e determined to be 1.85(-0.25)(+0.15) and < 0.02, respectively. By exa
mination of the electronic configuration of the excited state of CIF3,
the primary photodissociation products are predicted to be CIF2 + F.
