Abstract
The local order in YFe2Dx deuterides, which crystallize in different c rystal structures derived from the C15 cubic structure are characteriz ed by EXAFS and Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopy. For all the deuterides d ifferent Fe sites and a large distribution of Fe-Fe distances are obse rved, whereas around the Y atoms the distances are close to what is ex pected in the cubic C15 structure. The origin of the structural distor tions is discussed in relation to the magnetic properties. (C) 1997 El sevier Science S.A.
