S. Tokunaga, A RESIDENTIAL LAND-USE MODEL WITH A GENERAL LANDOWNERSHIP - EXISTENCEAND UNIQUENESS OF EQUILIBRIUM, Papers in regional science, 76(3), 1997, pp. 301-319
This paper is focused on equilibrium in a spatial model with two incom
e groups. In Fujita and Tokunaga (1993), we have proposed a basic mode
l of residential land use, called an alpha-landownership model, in whi
ch a group of city residents was assumed to own the circular area from
the CBD to a radius alpha. However, the assumption of a circular land
area was very restrictive. Therefore in this paper a general model of
residential land use called the S-landownership model is presented. T
his model assumes that a group of city residents jointly owns a part o
f the city's land, and it includes both the absentee landownership mod
el and the public landownership model as special cases. The existence
and uniqueness of the land use equilibrium for this S-landownership mo
del are demonstrated.
