Abstract
A grinding vial has been developed to be used with a high grinding ene rgy swinging mill under the pressure of selected gases. This tool has been used for the study of titanium with nitrogen gas. Nanometric tita nium nitride with a crystallite size around 10 nm has been obtained. A mechanism for the mechanochemical conversion of titanium into titaniu m nitride has been proposed.
