Abstract
Diffusion potential breaks the forward/backward symmetry of ions' move ments in electrolyte solutions. For (he movements along with the conce ntration gradient, forward, the faster ions are retarded and the slowe r ones are accelerated to make cations and anions to move together. Fb r the movements against the concentration gradient, backward, the fast er ions are accelerated and the slower ones are retarded. Thus the dif fusion potential differentiates markedly the forward and backward move ments of ions.
