Abstract
We present a systematic study of the modification of the spontaneous e mission of a point dipole in a planar semiconductor microcavity, bound ed by different types of mirrors, Numerical evaluations of the spontan eous emission rate indicate that semiconductor cavities bounded by Bra gg mirrors display only a weak modification of spontaneous emission, w hile significant enhancement and inhibition of spontaneous emission sh ould be observed in cavities bounded by metallic mirrors.
