U. Grabowy et al., TRANSIENT MAGNETIC-FIELD AND ELECTRIC-FIELD GRADIENT OF FAST H-LIKE CR-52 IONS TRAVERSING GD TARGETS, ZEITSCHRIFT FUR PHYSIK A-HADRONS AND NUCLEI, 359(4), 1997, pp. 377-383
The first 2(+)-state of Cr-52 was used to measure the transient magnet
ic field and the transient electric field gradient in Gd at ion veloci
ties close to the Is-electron Bohr velocity employing Coulomb excitati
on to a Cr-52 ion beam of 14.5 A MeV energy. The transient magnetic fi
eld value obtained, B-TF = 1.00(38) kTesla, implies a degree of polari
zation p(1s) = 0.05(2) which fairly agrees with the expected 1/Z-depen
dence. The magnitude of the transient electric field gradient deduced
is of the order of 10(21) V/cm(2).
