S. Killick et C. Allen, SHIFTING THE BALANCE - MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING TO HELP BEHAVIOR-CHANGE IN PEOPLE WITH BULIMIA-NERVOSA, European eating disorders review, 5(1), 1997, pp. 33-41
People with bulimia nervosa are often ambivalent about coming for help
. Motivational interviewing considers ambivalence to be a normal and a
ppropriate state for anyone considering behavioural change. By explori
ng ambivalence and considering the readiness of a client to change, a
structure is created that builds collaboration between therapist and c
lient, and avoids conflict: this can help in establishing change in ea
ting behaviour and is compatible with other therapeutic models.
