P. Altreuther et al., CONSIDERATIONS ON RESISTANCE MONITORING I N ANIMAL HEALTH, Berliner und Munchener Tierarztliche Wochenschrift, 110(11-12), 1997, pp. 418-421
This article describes conventional procedures which are used for susc
eptibility testing of bacteria isolated from food producing animals ag
ainst antiinfective substances. Interpretation of results obtained fro
m the different test methods and the conditions necessary to conduct t
hese tests in view of a meaningful resistance monitoring are discussed
. Currently, published data about the resistance situation in veterina
ry medicine are either not representative or have been determined unde
r suboptimal conditions. In view of the public and often non-scientifi
cally based discussion about bacterial resistance it is absolutely nec
essary to generate a scientifically valid database.
