Abstract
A new species, Carex ophiolithica, is described from the Surville Clif fs, North Cape Scientific Reserve, Northland. This bright green sedge, with swollen culm bases, erect culms and spikes is known only from th e ultramafic rocks of the Tangihua Complex Ophiolite sequence where it is locally abundant.
