Abstract
Clypeolus Miller, Playford et Le Herisse, gen. nov. is established as a new acritarch genus based on C. tortugaides (Cramer) Miller, Playfor d et Le Herisse, comb. nov. et emend. as the type species. The genus i ncorporates distinctly muronate vesicles that are shield-like or hemis pherical and open equatorially, possibly resulting from an undetermine d excystment structure. C. tortugaides has been recovered infrequently from strata in Australia, North America, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden and Turkey, and ranges in age from Middle Ordovician to Late Silurian.
