The behavior of Np(TV) and Pu(IV) hydroxides in 0.5-14 M NaOH in the p
resence of O-2, O-3, KMnO4, Fe(CN)(6)(3-), FeO42-, and CrO42- was stud
ied. All these oxidants convert Np(IV) into Np(V) and Np(VI). In 8-14
M NaOH, Np(VII) is formed under the action of O-3, MnO4-, Fe(CN)(6)(3-
), and FeO42-. The same reagents, except O-2 and CrO42-, oxidize Pu(IV
) partially or completely.
