A study by ion exchange, ultrafiltration, and centrifugation methods h
as shown that with no supersaturation with respect to the SrSO4 phase
in the system Sr2+-HCl-Na2SO4-H2O, species of the composition SrSO40(I
) and Sr[SO4](2)(2-)(II) are formed over a wide range of strontium con
centrations. The stability constants for the complexes have been estim
ated as follows: log beta(10) = 2.30+/-0.20 and log beta(20) = 1.50+/-
0.10 for the zero ionic strength. The influence of complexes I and II
on the migration ability of Sr-90 in natural aqueous solutions is disc
ussed.
