Abstract
A new type of polymer varnish (coating) has been developed, based on p oly(vinyl alcohol) oxidized by potassium permanganate in water solutio n. The flammability of this coating was tested using a cone calorimete r. All tests indicated an increase in the frame retardancy of this pol ymer coating due to carbonization of cross-linked polymer fragments. ( C) 1997 Elsevier Science Limited.
