Abstract
An approach to evaluate the influence of phenomenological uncertainty in reliability assessments is proposed. A simple scheme is developed t o update initial estimates of the proneness to failure as the time dur ing which the system operates increases. Conclusions are drawn with re spect to the significance of very high reliability estimates. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
