V. Costantino et al., GLYCOLIPIDS FROM SPONGES - 6 - PLAKOSIDE-A AND PLAKOSIDE-B, 2 UNIQUE PRENYLATED GLYCOSPHINGOLIPIDS WITH IMMUNOSUPPRESSIVE ACTIVITY FROM THEMARINE SPONGE PLAKORTIS SIMPLEX, Journal of the American Chemical Society, 119(51), 1997, pp. 12465-12470
Plakoside A (la) and B (29), two unique glycosphingolipids belonging t
o a new class of prenylated glycolipid, have been isolated from the ma
rine sponge Plakortis simplex, and their structures have been determin
ed by spectroscopic and chemical means. Plakosides are strongly immuno
suppressive on activated T cells and proved to be useful natural model
s for an improved comprehension of the structural requirements for imm
unomodulating activity of glycosphingolipids.
