ON THE TERRITORIAL CONSEQUENCES OF THE TR ANSFORMATION PROCESS IN THENEW BUNDESLANDER - COMMENTS ON THE REPORT TOWNS AND REGIONS OF THE KSPW

With completion of the commendable work of the KSPW, an abundance of v aluable insights into the transformation process of East Germany has b een attained. After the phase of concentrating on the observations and descriptions of the status quo, it would now be desirable that furthe r work be oriented towards developing recommendations and courses of a ction for political, economic and societal praxis. In doing so, territ orial references should be extended and the work expanded to such rele vant fields that have previously been insufficiently examined, such as transportation, ecology and sustainable development, among others. Th e subject of social and political change in East Germany cannot be con sidered completed, rather the work of the KSPW should be continued in a suitable form.
