A. Etxeberria et al., MISCIBILITY AND INTERACTIONS IN A MIXTURE OF POLY(ETHYLENE OXIDE) ANDAN AROMATIC POLY(ETHER AMIDE), Polymer, 39(5), 1998, pp. 1035-1042
Results concerning a mixture of an experimental aromatic poly(ether am
ide) and poly(ethylene oxide) are reported. The presence of ether grou
ps in both polymers, and the possibility of a great number of intermol
ecular hydrogen bonds, give rise to polymer-polymer interactions that
result in partial miscibility, as it has been demonstrated by FT-i.r.,
differential scanning calorimetry and optical microscopy. These resul
ts are qualitatively consistent with theoretical phase diagrams calcul
ated from an association model which emphasizes the role of hydrogen b
ond interactions in this type of blend. (C) 1997 Published by Elsevier
