The effects of strain-cycle preload and strain rate on the crack growt
h behavior in a particulate composite material were investigated. In t
his study, centrally cracked preloaded specimens, made from a polybuta
diene rubber embedded with hard particles, were used to conduct crack
propagation tests under three strain rates (0.05, 0.5 and 5.0 min(-1),
at room temperature. Experimental data were analyzed and the results
are discussed. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
