Abstract
Storm deposits are common on Chinese coasts. Modern shoreface storm de posits can be seen along most shorefaces, especially on the intertidal flat of the North Jiangsu Province, the south bank of Yangtze River D elta, Hangzhou Bay and Hainan Island. Ancient storm deposits (''tempes tites'') can be found in the carbonate rocks of Sinian, Pre-Cambrian, Cambrian, Carboniferous, Permian and Triassic age. They are distribute d on the North China Platform, Lower Yangtze area and Sichuan Basin. I n addition to carbonate tempestites, there are also some phosphatic an d siliciclastic tempestites in China. This paper summarizes observatio ns of these storm deposits, widespread on the coast and inland in Chin a. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
