N. Fujita et al., EVALUATION OF THE POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE INDUCED BETWEEN PLATINUM-ELECTRODES WITH AND WITHOUT GAMMA-RAY IRRADIATION, Radiation physics and chemistry, 50(5), 1997, pp. 457-463
By irradiating (60)Coy-rays to solutions with argon (Ar) or carbon dio
xide (COL), it is confirmed that the potential of electrode under gamm
a-rays shows a sharp reduction during an early period and that concent
ration cell is formed to give potential difference (PD) between electr
odes with and without exposure. When Ar is purged through solution, th
e absolute value of PD shows a linear relation with dose rate (R) on l
og-log scale [equation (9)] whereas there is not a good correlation be
tween PD and R in the solution with CO2. In the light of concentration
cell thus formed, some concepts are preliminary discussed to control
the adverse effect of radiation-enhanced localized corrosion taking pl
ace in nuclear power plants. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights
