Abstract
The general working stress GS (the sum of design stress and residual s tress) of a vessel, can be effectively controlled by means of a warm p reloading treatment. When the preload factor is around 2, the maximum GS in the preloaded vessel is less than 0.87 yield strength of vessel material. Therefore an apparent improvement of safety performance of t he preloaded vessel can be achieved. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
