This paper presents the results of the development of a new photoelect
ric aerosol counter designed for measuring the differential count conc
entration of dust particles of sixteen size gradations and for determi
ning the total count and total mass concentration. Its main technical
and operational characteristics are compared with those of similar dev
ices, its advantages are enumerated, and its operating principles and
structural layout are described. Experimental results and error estima
tes are presented. Some possibilities for measuring aerosols are illus
trated. (C) 1996 The Optical Society of America.
