IN-FABRICATION AND PRESERVICE CARE ON STAINLESS-STEEL PRESSURE-VESSELS

This paper discusses certain failure cases of austenitic stainless ste el pressure vessels and components like dished ends due to improper sp ecifications and inadequate care during fabrication, welding, hydrosta tic testing and storage of tanks at coastal site. These failures are a ttributed to various reasons such as residual stress, sensitisation, i ron contamination and saline atmosphere. The paper also brings out the precautions to be taken during fabrication, storage and erection of a ustenitic stainless steel pressure vessels to avoid failures. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
