In experiments with 5x5 diallel cross of tomato cv. Smrzicke contents
of individual chlorophylls (Chl) and carotenoids (Car), Chl fluorescen
ce kinetic parameters (F-v/F-m, q(P), q(N) and Phi(II)), activities of
photosystem 2 and of the whole electron transport chain (Hill reactio
n) were compared during plant ontogeny with the aim to detect genetica
lly determined differences among genotypes. The differences in Chl flu
orescence kinetic parameters and Hill reaction activities were more af
fected by leaf development than by plant genotype, although the differ
ences between reciprocal crosses were found in the former ones. Some a
dditive genetic effects may participate in the genetic determination o
f q(N). Statistically significant non-additive genetic effects in inhe
ritance of the total Chl content were found, Detailed pigment analysis
revealed additivity together with differences between reciprocal cros
ses in individual Car and Chl. The highest general combining ability w
as found for the parental line AM.
