Abstract
There is something rather poignant about seeing a shooting star, In th e quiet of the night, under the clear dark sky, one is witnessing the death of a cosmic dust particle, a particle that had its own independe nt orbit around the Sun, and whose only fault was having an orbit that intersected the Earth's, and being at the intersection point at the s ame time as Earth. Every year about 200,000 tonnes of extraterrestrial material hits Earth.
