Nutritional quality of commercial poultry diets was assessed in this s
tudy. Fifty four food samples from the 10 main recorded manufactures i
n Senegal (21 starter and 14 finisher broiler diets, 6 diets for the y
oung hen and 13 for the layer hen) were chemically analyzed and values
compared to recommendations. An excess in crude fiber, an often high
crude protein content, a deficiency in lysin, in methionin, in threoni
n and in phosphorus, and a phosphocalcic imbalance were established in
most of foods. These nutritional imbalances have to be taken into con
sideration, due to their adverse effects in poultry farming profitabil
ity.
