Traffic emissions in Calcutta have increased sharply and the resulting
impact is threatening human health and damaging buildings such as the
Victoria Memorial Hall in Calcutta. Ambient concentrations have been
monitored around this building and a model has been developed which de
scribes concentration and deposition patterns as function of traffic e
missions and abatement measures. Planting a green belt is the most eff
ective counter measure to abate the impact of local emissions on Victo
ria Memorial Hall.
