Abstract
Genes for 19-kDa and 42-kDa subunits of protoplast-release-inducing pr otein (PR-IF) were cloned from the Closterium peracerosum-strigosum-li ttorale complex mt(+) cells. Genomic sequences and transcriptional ini tiation sites for both genes were determined. Sequence data revealed t hat typical TATA boxes are located immediately upstream of both transc riptional initiation sites. Several similar sequences were observed at nearly the same location in the promoters of both genes. Based on the se data, we propose some possible hypotheses regulating the expression of the PR-IF subunit genes.
