During high-speed deformation inhomogeneities in the local distributio
n of plastic strain arise due to the dynamic character of the loading
process. The occurrence of these inhomogeneities is studied for the ca
se of the high-speed compression test with a ballistic plastometer. Lo
cal strain fields are determined experimentally with the method of vis
ioplasticity using a fibre composite material and investigated complem
entarily by finite element simulations of the entire loading process.
