Abstract
Background. There is recent evidence to suggest that extremely low bir th weight is associated with the occurrence of hepatoblastoma. Procedu re. In light of this possibility, Lye evaluated trends in hepatoblasto ma incidence in the United States among children age 4 years and young er. Results. We found an increasing trend (5.2%) in hepatoblastoma inc idence over the past two decades, a period that corresponds with impro ved survival of very low birth weight children. Conclusion. Future stu dies of hepatoblastoma that incorporate birth weight are appropriate. (C) 1998 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
