Im. Williams et al., GALL STONE ILEUS FOLLOWING MULTIPLE ENDOSCOPIC RETROGRADE CHOLANGIOPANCREATOGRAPHIES, Journal of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, 42(6), 1997, pp. 423-423
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is used as a dia
gnostic and therapeutic procedure and common bile duct (CBD) stones ca
n be removed using this technique. Early complications of ERCP are wel
l recognized, but there is little in the literature concerning complic
ations developing later. Gall stone ileus following ERCP has been prev
iously reported but not with a delay of up to 2 months.(1) This case i
llustrates such a delayed complication following multiple ERCPs for CB
D stones.
