D. Demouy et al., SENSITIVITY TO FOSFOMYCIN FOR MAIN URINAR Y-TRACT BACTERIA INFECTIONS- A SURVEY ON FEMALE OUT-PATIENTS, 15 TO 65 YEARS OF AGE, Medecine et maladies infectieuses, 27(11), 1997, pp. 903-906
Species frequency was studied for bacteria isolated in 590 cases, Samp
les came from urinary tract infections detected by general practitione
rs in women 15 to 65 years of age, between April and June 1996, This s
tudy demonstrated the predominance of E. coli and P. mirabilis. These
two main species were shown to be very sensitive to fosfomycin (98.2 %
and 96.7 % of sensitive strains, respectively). Moreover, after sever
al years of fosfomycin use (trometamol salt) in single-dose therapy fo
r lower uncomplicated UTIs in women under 65 years of age, there is no
evidence of increase in E. coli resistance to this antibiotic, Fosfom
ycin trometamol thus remains specifically adapted to the treatment of
lower uncomplicated UTIs in women under 65 years of age.
