The delayed appearance of positive patch test results is considered to
be evidence of active sensitisation by the substance used for the pat
ch testing, In order to evaluate the frequency of these reactions, als
o termed ''spontaneous flares'', we recalled 550 patients 15 days afte
r they had been tested with the standard ICDRG series and our addition
al series. Thirty-nine spontaneous flares were noted at Day 15, 15 to
the allergens belonging to the ''para'' group. Mechanisms other than a
ctive sensitisation were considered, Active sensitisation could be con
firmed for budesonide, and it could be envisaged for IPPD and PPD, The
risk of active sensitisation argues in favour of the elaboration of a
series specifically adapted for children, who come into contact with
a different range of chemicals as compared to adults; a written report
should be given to the patient in order to avoid multitesting.
