C. Monterroso et al., ALUMINUM SPECIATION AND PHYTOTOXICITY IN MINESOILS OF A LIGNITE MINE IN NW SPAIN, Fresenius environmental bulletin, 7(1-2), 1998, pp. 65-73
The soil solution composition and the solution aluminium speciation we
re used to evaluate the Al phytotoxicity risks in the reclaimed soils
of the lignite nine in As Pontes, NW Spain, The vegetation decline in
some soils containing sulphides appears to relate to the high acidity
and salinity rising from sulphide oxidation rather than to the high al
uminium concentrations, The high concentrations of SO42- and base cati
ons, particularly Ca2+ and Mg2+, play an remarkable detoxifying role i
n these environments.
