An immunostimulating polysaccharide was produced extracellularly by su
spension cell culture of Angelica gigas Nakai. The polysaccharide was
larger in molecular weight than that obtained from the extract of A. g
igas root. It was mainly composed of arabinose, galactose, galacturoni
c acid, protein, Ca2+ and Mg2+, and stimulated the mixed lymphocyte re
action activity as potently as the polysaccharide obtained from the pl
ant root.
