Abstract
Improvements have been made to a spectroscopic model of the electron b eam fluorescence (EBF) spectra from the CO2+ A(2) Pi(u)-->X-2 Pi(g) el ectronic transition of the (100-000), (200-100) and (300-200) bands th rough the inclusion of the (10-010) Renner-Teller bands. The (010) vib rational state of the CO2 molecule is thermally excited at temperature s near 300 K based on an analysis of the vibrational partition functio n for this molecule. The excitation and emission processes for the Ren ner-Teller bands were modeled with dipole moments. The inclusion of th ese Renner-Teller bands into the spectroscopic model produces an impro ved fit to the measured fluorescence spectrum between 337 nm and 339 n m. This improved model provides for a more accurate measurement of the rotational temperature using the EBF technique. (C) 1998 Elsevier Sci ence Ltd. All rights reserved.
