C. Keana, EVALUATING THE INFLUENCE OF FEAR OF CRIME AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL MOBILITY RESTRICTOR ON WOMENS ROUTINE ACTIVITIES, Environment and behavior, 30(1), 1998, pp. 60-74
Although fear of crime is a topic that has received considerable resea
rch interest, less attention has been paid to the behavioral consequen
ces of fear. Conducting secondary data analysis on a national survey o
f Canadian women, this article examines whether women would frequent c
ertain environments more often, that they currently perceive as unsafe
, if they felt safer. The article concludes that fear may be limiting
women's movement around their environment, and by reducing fear, lifes
tyle options should increase.
