Abstract
A possible reaction pathway for the C-H bond cleavage of methane on in termediate Q of methane monooxygenase is studied theoretically. We pro pose that the activation of methane C-H bond by Q, suggested to involv e a high valent Fe-2(mu-O)(2) diamond core, should occur through the f ormation of the Q(CH4) complex with an Fe-C bond and Fe-H bonds, follo wed by a concerted H atom abstraction via a four-centered transition s tate.
