A combined atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning tunneling micros
copy (STM) investigation of stainless steel like surface morphology fo
rmed either in electropolishing bath or in HNO3 medium is reported. A
new numerical technique using the Nanoscope III software is proposed.
The dimension, slope and orientation of scales can be easily determine
d. Moreover, grain boundaries structure and probable oxides present in
