Abstract
The effect of UV/ozone treatments on the surface and bulk properties o f wool has been investigated. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicat es that the oxidative process causes extensive surface modification, w hile vibrational and electron spin resonance techniques show the forma tion of cysteic acid and free radical species. The beneficial effect o f UV/ozone treatment on wool dyeing, printing and shrink-resist proper ties has been investigated.
