A blue electroluminescent polymer containing 9,10-diphenylanthracenevi
nylenephenylene and alkylene block in the main chain was prepared by t
he Wittig reaction. A singlelayer electroluminescent device was fabric
ated by spin casting a solution of the novel polymer onto glass substr
ates coated with a pattern indium tin oxide (ITO). A bluish white lumi
nescence was obtained from the device using aluminum as the cathode co
ntact with intensities in the range of 45-80 cd/m(2) and external quan
tum efficiency of 0.01%.
