EVALUATION OF THE EFFICACY OF FLORFENICOL COMPARED TO LONG-ACTING SPIRAMYCIN, BOTH ASSOCIATED TO FLUNIXIN MEGLUMIN, IN THE TREATMENT OF BOVINE RESPIRATORY-DISEASE IN CALVES
A. Madelenat et al., EVALUATION OF THE EFFICACY OF FLORFENICOL COMPARED TO LONG-ACTING SPIRAMYCIN, BOTH ASSOCIATED TO FLUNIXIN MEGLUMIN, IN THE TREATMENT OF BOVINE RESPIRATORY-DISEASE IN CALVES, Recueil de medecine veterinaire, 173(4-6), 1997, pp. 113-119
A clinical trial comparing the efficacy of florfenicol and long acting
spiramycin tested following their recommended dosage regimen, and ass
ociated to one intramuscular injection of flunixin meglumin, has been
conducted on 90 calves of the same farm suffering from respiratory dis
ease. Over a 28 days observation period, the statistical analysis of t
he clinical results (rectal temperature, respiratory rates, clinical i
ndex, depression, nasal discharge and cough), of the success/failure r
ates, and the bacteriological results clearly demonstrate the superior
efficacy of florfenicol in the treatment of this outbreak of respirat
ory disease.
