M. Krajnicakova et al., COMPARISON OF SELECTED HEMATOLOGICAL PARAMETERS IN SEPTEMBER-LAMBING AND FEBRUARY-LAMBING OF SLOVAK MERINO SHEEP, Small ruminant research, 26(1-2), 1997, pp. 131-135
Selected parameters of red and white blood components were observed in
September-and February-lambing of Slovak Merino sheep. Blood was samp
led from the jugular vein on the following days postpartum: 1, 4, 7, 1
4, 17, 21, 25 and 34. Significant differences were found at the determ
ined intervals in which parameters of the red blood component (hemoglo
bin, hematocrit, erythrocytes) were evaluated. Total leukocyte counts
increased (P < 0.05) on day 21 after parturition in the group of Septe
mber-lambing sheep. Similar differences in eosinophil granulocytes wer
e observed on day 34 (P < 0.05). This study presents the laboratory re
sults of hematological parameters in September-and February-lambing Sl
ovak Merino sheep. Significant differences in selected hematological p
arameters during the observed period are due to seasonal factors. The
results of white and red blood components are an important part of the
homeostasy control in animal organisms in the puerperal period. (C) 1
