The medical profession is approaching a transformation as the next mil
lennium nears. Economic pressures have changed the face of medicine, s
everely modifying the traditional doctor-patient relationship. The pop
ularity of alternative medicine is at an all-time high, perhaps becaus
e it allows patients to exercise coral control over their healthcare a
nd is usually more affordable than conventional medicine, at least in
the short term. Doctors of today, working under tremendous time constr
aints, have less time than ever to interact with patients, keep abreas
t of discoveries in their specialty, enjoy their families, and develop
outside interests.
