F. Chevalley et D. Gamba, GAMMA-NAILING OF PERTROCHANTERIC AND SUBTROCHANTERIC FRACTURES - CLINICAL-RESULTS OF A SERIES OF 63 CONSECUTIVE CASES, Journal of orthopaedic trauma, 11(6), 1997, pp. 412-415
Objective: To analyze the use of thr gamma nail in the treatment Desig
n: Prospective. Setting: University. with gamma nails. Patients: Sixty
-three fractures in sixty-three patients treated with gamma nails. Res
ults: Forty-five of the sixty-three patients (71 percent) were followe
d until the end of treatment, for an average follow-up period of 7.2 m
onths. Of the remaining eighteen, eleven died and seven were lost to f
ollow-up. Reduction was classified as good in thirty-eight cases, acce
ptable in nineteen, and unsatisfactory in six. Conclusion: The finding
s from this series indicate that, compared with other methods, the gam
ma nail enables the surgeon to treat more types of hip fractures with
a less invasive technique and achieve equal or better results.
