Rf. Wakelin et Sr. Corson, TMP LONG-FIBER FRACTIONATION WITH PRESSURE SCREENS - CONTOURED SURFACE BASKETS ARE BETTER THAN SMOOTH SURFACE BASKETS, Pulp & paper Canada, 98(12), 1997, pp. 179-182
Radiata pine thermomechanical pulps with different fibre types and deg
rees of development are shown to have different long fibre fractionati
on and reject thickening characteristics. The high fractionation effic
iencies achieved by smooth surface baskets with drilled holes can be e
qualled by contoured surface screen baskets with fine, 0.15 mm slot wi
dths. The screening performance of the latter baskets can be tuned by
adjusting the rotor speed, to accommodate variations in the pulp prope
rties.
